How Do I Bind with the RENZ ECO 360 Comfort Wire Binding Machine?
The RENZ ECO 360 Comfort wire binding machine is a 2:1 pitch wire binder that is designed for medium-to-large office use, with a user-friendly electric punching mechanism that is able to punch up to 30 sheets at a time. The ECO 360 Comfort features a built-in manual wire closer that can accommodate twin-loop binding spines up to 1-1/4″ in diameter. Below are step-by-step instructions for binding books using the RENZ ECO 360 Comfort wire binder:
- Use the measuring scale located toward the rear of the machine to determine the diameter of the wire binding spine that will be required based on the thickness of your book.
- Set the wire closer to match the diameter of your wire. The wire closer is adjusted using the sliding scale located on top of the closer itself. Begin by loosening the screw knob, then slide the knob until it is aligned with the correct diameter and tighten it to finalize the adjustment.
- Use the depth margin control knob to set the amount of space between the edge of the paper and the punched holes. As a guideline, thick documents tend to have larger punching margins than thin documents.
- Adjust the side guide to correspond to the sheet size of your document. Loosen the screw, re-position the guide, and tighten the screw to prevent the guide from shifting during use.
- Disengage any punching dies that are needed to prevent holes from being partially-punched along the ends of your sheets. A die can be disengaged by pulling the corresponding pin straight upward until it stops. A previously-disengaged die can be re-engaged by pushing the pin back into the machine.
- Set the position of the closing rail based on the size of the binding wire that will be used. The closing rail has two positions – one that is used for wires 3/16″ – 1″ in diameter and the other for wires 1-1/8″ – 1-1/2″ in diameter. To adjust the closing rail, push the buttons located on both sides of the rail and turn as necessary.
- Place the wire binding spine onto the wire holder. The wire holder allows you to immediately insert punched pages onto the wire for increased productivity.
- Arrange the pages of your book so that the back cover is placed on top of the front cover and the faces are against one another. Turn the entire stack over so that the covers are at the bottom. Placing them in this order will allow you to conceal the seam of the closed wire within the book.
- Insert up to 30 sheets (based on 20 lb. paper) into the punching channel, aligning the pages against the side guide. Note: If you are punching thick cardstock or PVC covers, punch them separately from the internal pages of your document.
- Press the foot pedal to start the motor and punch through the inserted sheets. After punching, thread your sheets onto the binding wire.
- Repeat steps 9 – 10 until your document has been completely punched and inserted onto the wire.
- Lift the twin-loop wire off of the wire holder and place it into the wire closer. The open side of the wire should face toward the machine and sit flush against the back of the closer.
- Pull the closer handle forward to close the wire spine. Return the handle to its upright position in order to open the wire closer.
- Remove your book from the wire closer and turn the back cover around to the back of the book to complete the binding process.
Tips:
- To keep the machine clean and free of debris, it is recommended that you periodically wipe it clean with a dry or slightly moist cloth. Do not use harsh cleaners or solvents, as they may remove the labels on the machine.
- Empty the waste drawer frequently during use. Attempting to punch while the waste drawer is full can lead to jams or cause damage to the machine.
